Stone safari
Today it was 465kms, Tolou´s Lodge to Fish River Canyon.
We passed a railway station where we stopped for a sandwich. This railroad was built already in 1895, which is a grand piece of information and it is still used today. The steam engine at the entry was the first to traffic this section.
Over a sandwich Lukas got the information that Canon’s Lodge was the place, if we wanted to stop overnight at the Fish River Canyon. I had it as way-point on the final destination and saw that we had 45kms to go when we turned in to the lodge.
Canon Lodge is in a beautiful scenery and is an architectural wonder. The cottages are built of stone, cement and some wood, spread out among the rocks.

Lukas immediately bought an evening safari with a guide who would take us to Fish River Canyon, an event you shouldn’t miss. Said and done and at 17:00 we started the trip. It was a nature muppet show, where the guide enthsiastically told us that some trees have roots that reach a depth of 45 metres and that some of the bushes are poisonous.
At first I didn’t understand anything, then I realised: We were on a hill when the guide started preaching, equally enthusiastic, about stones.
We were on a stone safari with Lukas! He is basically a mining man and had brought us on a geological stone event. We were all a bit put off and suspected we’d never get to see the canyon, only rocks. You can, with the proper attitude, sell anything. This is something I have to consider in my event planning.
The evening closed on a little hill in the desert with a gin and tonic. It started getting fun and I shot a few pictures for my computer screen, for cold and dark evening.
