Shock in the flock – a whole day of rest. Those who
wanted could stay in bed all day. We have to change seven
tyres and do some inspection, but this is easily postponed
until afternoon.
Mikko and Stefan didn’t get to see the falls yesterday,
so they went today. I shot this photo early this morning,
with a long exposure for the light of dawn.

Rest is perhaps not the right expression. We decided to do some rafting
below the falls in the Zambezi river, between nine in the morning
and three in the afternoon. Here you see a gang of adrenaline junkies,
who still don’t know what’s in store for them. Already
in the first passage we flipped. And then again und finally a nice
back-flip in a third-category passage. I hope to buy pictures and
a video of this before we leave the hotel. Will be back with those
tomorrow, if I can find them.
I know you may be disappointed at home, but the Pite River does not
hold the same standard as the Zambezi. It was a terrific experience,
with the nature all around us and a force in the water that lends
respect for a landcrab like me. To see the rescuing staff, paddling
along, was lika watching ballet or ice-skating on a world-class level.
I am deeply impressed by their talents, the way they treat the forces
of nature in an amazing way. My jaw dropped constantly during the
day, my vocabulary is simply not enough. And I want to pose the following
rhetorical question: What’s wrong with long underwear for rafting?
