Lukas gave mig this wooden sculpture. He said it reminded
him of me. I’m not sure how to react to this, but
after a while I took it as an honour. I mean, Walt Disney’s
Lion King was a success...
Finally I got to see a canoe from the Swedish mail order
house Hobbex, When I was about ten I dreamed of a canoe
of my own, My weekly allowance was not enough, as they cost
about 800 Crowns.

Looking through this mail order catalogue, dreaming as one does, of
all the things one needs. Things that I put in the category, useful
to have. My money was just about enough for one storm lighter for
petrol. 12 Crowns, made somewhere East. It didn’t function.
But I found a do-it-yourself handbook on how to make your own canoe.
I specially remember the words „three simple stages“.
Of course I ordered it, it cost 8 Crowns. When it finally turned up
in the post, the first sentence read: “Cut down a big tree and
hollow it out.” I have to ask myself if Hobbex was big once
in Malawi?
We checked in at the hotel Livingstonia in Senga Bay on the southern
shore of Malawi lake.
Envious? OK?
Finally a shot from my hotel door.
