Today we rode 458kms between Mbeya in Tanzania to Chintheche in Malawi.

I know I keep repeating myself, when I say the landscape here in Africa is beautiful. But when we approached the border of Malawi, the mountains were adorable all around. |
The greenery has that light quality I know from Fjällbonäs the first two weeks of summer. I assume this area keeps the same colour all year around.
We also ran into the worst kind of monsoon rain, for about 30 minutes. We had to take shelter in a warehouse. The rain was massive, the roads disappeared in a haze. |
Lukas and Ian abstained from Goretex his morning, but I put in the liner which came to good use in the rain. Weather improved and I removed my liner half an hour later I, too, was drenched. Lukas and Ian stopped and took off their BMW jackets, changed shirt and then donned just the liner, a procedure that I condemned: Riding with girlie liner? I planned to have the wind dry me out. Last tank stop for the day and new clouds towered at the horizon. I tried to put on the liner so nobody’d notice. Strange that everybody, including Lukas, saw this. |
When we finally reached our destination Chintheche we found a paradise. A beach away from the main road, good service. What more can you want? I shot a photo from the door of my bungalow, specially for you at home in the winter darkness. |
We ordered beer by bungalow-service and drank it on the beach after an exhausting day. |
Then we got rid of the dust with an old-fashioned dip in the Malawi Lake, well needed against the collected dust. |
