Start in the early dawn to ride from Arusha to Dodoma in Tanzania,
a distance of 425kms dirt-sand-rocks-road. Temperatures have been
about 33 degrees all day, not a cloud in the sky.
The clay dirt roads are nice to ride but takes an effort. None of
the Lundin brothers was eager to go jogging today, good!
Many sales stands along the road. This woman felt I should buy a whole
basket of tomatoes. Everything rolls along nicely, nobody works too
much and what isn’t done today, can be done tomorrow. I don’t
think the expression burn-out syndrome exists in their dictionary.
We have now entered the real jungle, some of it with traces of human
activity, but most, to my eyes, proper jungle. The vegetation is impressive
in some parts.
The local population burn off shrubbery and such to prepare for their
own crops. Here, they have just lit the fire to burn off all bushes
and trees and prepare their own land.
We stopped in Dola, where three packs of biscuits cost about 0,30
Euros and we even found Coca Cola. The locals here in Tanzania are
much more quite than in Kenya. During a 15-minute break, Lukas managed
to catch up on some sleep.
The Baobao tree is a lovely tree to sit under. Talk about diameter,
this tree was roughly 5-6 metres around. A dream for an amateur carpenter...
