Chris Haines

This morning was in the spirit of Chris Haines. Nobody in the motorcycle business polishes as much as he does. Well, not he, but his team. Chris runs a motorcycle rental on the Baja peninsula in Mexico. I have done Baja 1000 three times with Lukas and Haines has always taken care of bikes and service.
I am deeply disappointed to see the Lundin brothers put on jogging shoes for a lap in the morning. This is a provocation, doing this in the middle of a hard bike trip. This means I have not managed to build enough hardship into my trip. How would it look if I were to put on shoes and go jogging after a hard stage in the Dakar and then relax at the pool with umbrella drinks?

I have to reconsider – the boys are simply fit. All days of rest are herewith cancelled and the days’s stages will be longer. If I could, I’d try to lengthen Africa somehow. The main problem is the cars won’t catch up. What if I’d get fired as travel guide, because of too lazy days? How would that look?

Must try to get some coca leaves or perhaps amfetamin in Tanzania and have Mikko and Stefan chew this when the eyes are getting heavy as satellite dishes behind the steering wheel. That is probably the only way to get more out of the little dears. Their wives should see this: You will have your boys back considerably slimmer and less male. I have kept my deal with Anita to deflate Mikko a couple of kiloes. This could be a new business venture: Slim fast with PG in the desert, reduction guaranteed.

Today we passed the border to Tanzania, with a big halleluja for the customs here, but also the customs in Kenya and Ethiopia. Egypt should send their people here for training. The passage took less than an hour. What I saw of the country in daylight, looked fine.

The country is extremely beautiful and I hope to see more wild animals tomorrow, apart from the antelopes, zebras and a gaggle of baboons from today.
We didn’t quite reach Kilimandjaro in daylight so you will have to be satisified with the mountain east of the legendary mountain, in sunset.
