Service and inspection

Mikko and myseld looked after the cars and the bikes and welded the extra tanks for fuel and water, carried on one of the pickups. They were leaking the first time we filled them up..
Today Ian, Lukas and Stefan visited ”The Bridge of Hope”. It’s a children’s home for street kids, that the Lundin family has been backing since the late ‘90s. In Karthoum there are about 35,000 children living on the street and the need for help is enormous. The home accommodates about 35 children in the ages between 7 and 19, but the kindergarten provides for another 75 to 150, a meal and the chance to get off the street for a while.
Barbara is the god spirit of the project. She shows us how the organisation works and what plans she has for the future.
On site it was decided to allocate some of the money from this trip to build a bakery and a playground!
We have now reached the 14th latitude and there is more savannah-like landscape. Today the temperatures have ranged about 35 degrees all day and the next nights will be tropical, meaning around 20 degrees during the night. It may sound funny, but my body seems to like this heat. When my thermostat has readjusted – which seems to need five days – it works well. The savannah is completely green during the rain period which is between May and July. Now the landscape is burned away and what the cattle survives on is a mystery to me. They must be the same sort of survivors as the bird ptarmigan at home in Lappland.
Today we could finally follow my first and only rule for the trip – don’t ride in the dark. We just managed to reach Gedaref before the lights went out.
