Washing
day with dinner at the embassy
Today nothing much happened on the 380kms between Debbah and
Khartoum, almost a day of rest compared to the day before.
When we reached doctor Alam Bagi in Khartoum we started up the
high-pressure and pushed a washing machine to its outer limit. |

As a former ambassador for Norrbotten, number 1 by the way, appointed
in the Year of the Lord 2001, I felt it was about time to rub shoulders
with people from these circles again. Present at the dinner were among
other Sida Development Fund’s Ulrika Josefsson and Jens Odlander
from the foreign ministry, Gustav Tapper from the business paper Dagens
Industri and Robert Ericsson who works for the Lundin Group and, last
but not least our host doctor Alam Bagi who works for Lundin Petroleum
in Sudan. Mikko exhanged views with Ulrika and Jens.
To honour the day, the representative from the foreign ministry brought
a box of Norrlands Guld beer and I felt like home. The Swedes will
remember the sales slogan “When you want to be by yourself”.
In the dry country of Sudan the expression becomes an extra dimension.
