Customs !
Today should have been devoted to getting washing equipment in and prepare the bikes with a thorough cleaning and general check-up. The local representative of the Nuweiba customs office is very pleasant until we get to talk about the car with the water and the high-pressure cleaner. Long sentences in Arabic follow, of which I understand nothing, but his body language is clear enough. I felt I could be a translator for any Western visitor who happened to have difficulties with this customs officer. The whole package, his gestures and his way of phrasing the spoken message is clear. Look at dog training, where you use the same method as this person when I tried to enter his sanctimony with a Chevrolet Silverado and high-pressure cleaner, the most sacred place this side of Mecca anyway.

The sun-sets are something special here. Pity only that the show is over in five minutes. Up home where I come from, near the Polar Circle, it is an event over several hours. |
