Regrouping

Today has been between 13 and 20 degrees and we have ridden from Nuwayba to Cairo, a distance of 420kms.

We ended up with Mr. Mamdouh Nagati in Cario, where we shall do some service and prepare for the proper trip. Only here, in Africa, the trip starts for real. Mamdouh is a friend of Lukas Lundin.

The week we spend here will be comfortable. We plan to re-start Janury 14 from Nuwayba on the east side of the Sinai peninsula. The reason for not starting from Cairo is the silly attitude of the customs people, not allowing the entry of two rider-less bikes.

Why our break is so long is because I daren’t plan without spare days for the bit in winter conditions. Planning 600km day trips with temperatures as low as 30 minus makes you humble in your ambitions and the spare days are necessary for all eventualities.

We have enjoyed an excellent dinner and discussed serious business with Mamdouh and asked him about a thousand things. Personally I love the opportunity to talk to people from other countries and cultures, to hear their opinions and how they think or act. It is more than enjoyable and I learn more in a night like this than in ten evenings in front of the television.

Tomorrow Stefan and I will follow Unsama to the centre of Cairo and buy 20 litres engine oil for the cars and looking for relays for the spare lights. One is broken from acute salt poisoning.
