Hartraj!

Today we drove the 320kms between Damascus and the Dead Sea and the temperature has been between 6 and 25 degrees.

The border between Syrian and Jordan was a slow show with lots of migrants crossing and quite a few trucks. When I finally got to the insurance man, he decided it was time for his prayers, not selling me insurance. I just had to accept it, got the coffee and a sandwich out and pondered life for a while.

Then we continued to the Dead Sea and enjoyed the altitude noted on the GPS. You do ask yourself, if it’s showing the right figures…

A Swedish artist had a song: ”Too fat too fuck” Well, here it is about exchanging the last word for ”swim”. The salt lifts the body high out of the water and it was almost unpleasant to swim.

Our B-team felt it was too cold for a swim in the Dead Sea and chose a warm well at the road instead.
It was nice to rinse the dust off your body. I used the well, too, to get rid of the salt.

We lived expensively the night before, in Cham Palace in Damascus and I felt it was time to save a little. A tent next to the warm well with free access to hot water for 3 whatever in local currency. Lots cheaper than the night before, which cost 270 dollars... I feel like crying, just writing the figure, but imagine paying it!

This morning when we took off in the capital of traffic hell, Damascus, I thought of all my mails, people asking about U-turns, how, what and when you do one. I planned to spend the day teaching, simply by riding Farmerlips instructively. I sketched out a nice traffic route in Damascus (see enclosed photo), tracked on the GPS. The red line is the one we took.

I failed to tell my fellow-travellers that it was school time and that I rode a college line this morning. The track reminds you of the line taken by a rabbit nights – Hartraj in our dialect. He runs back and forth in the same tracks and then makes side jumps in order to confuse the fox. Who I wanted to confuse, I refuse to disclose.
