Crypted

Temperatures today were between –12 degres at the start, with + 2 as the warmest at our day’s destination. We started in Prague and finished in Hungarian Szeged with a population of 200,000. Distance was 712 km.

Driving a 4wd is fun, even a Toyota dealer from Gävle can vouch for this, except when it’s time to pay for the fuel. The cars have 6.6-litre engines, with 310 hp. Powerful tools, that can take a 500kg workload and the engine sound is pleasant to any motorhead.

This last night it has snowed heavily and Brno was all white. The city has given its name to a gun and my first gun was a Hungaria 100S, a shot-gun. I started saving for it when I was eleven, selling empty bottles and saving my pocket money until I had 450 Crowns. The gun cost 710, but dad was understanding, picked up his big wallet and paid the rest.

The range on my HP2 with the extra fuel container is between 400 and 440 kms with winter-spiked tyres at motorway speeds. In sandy terrain the range will be less, even though the summer tyres have less circumference..

The tyre with the small spikes seems to work alright, but the spikes don’t seem to be as well hardened as the older rallye spikes on the old tyre. I hope I can use ordinary tyres from Bukarest..

Today I saw the sun for the first time since Cape North… from now on, things will improve. Looking forward to put my heavy gloves in the archives and use lighter cross gloves.

The gentlemen driving the cars have problems. Batteries for their radios last only two days. They are worried over the charging possibilities in Africa and are now learning a crypted code to save on current.
