The Paris tyre
|
Today it has been warm, with temperatures between -2 and -4 degrees and a light snowfall. Distance between Sundsvall and Norrköping is 525kms.
First stop was in Gävle at the Toyota dealer to pick up the third member of the team. Mikko who will drive one of the cars is the owner of the dealership. From the photo you can see they are closed over Christmas

From here there will not be much snow on the roads and this is not
good for my first front tyre with 6mm long spikes. The tyre is slippery
and throws sparks on the salt-covered roads. I called Lasse’s
rallye service a month ago and asked him to prepare some tyres with
shorter spikes for the roads in southern Sweden and Germany. He asked
me how I wanted them and I told him he was the expert. When the tyre
arrived a week later, I almost fainted, because there were no spikes
in the middle. (See left tyre in the photo.)
I called his business Lasses’s clown service and first wanted to give it away to somebody. But the more I thought of the clown tyre, the more I was interested in trying it. Now it has been tried between Gävle and Norrköping and as so often I must admit I was wrong. Always try new ideas before you kill a radical thinker. Try it, a recommendation for all winter riders. It’s the thing to have.

One side idea with the trip is to collect 1,000,000 dollars for drilling wells and constructing children’s homes in Africa, a project run by Lukas and Ian Lundin. A website is being prepared for this, more about that later. It’s exciting to see if we will get the money together. Read their thermometer during the trip and see if we succeed. www.lundinforlife.com
A picture says more than a thousand words, but to make it complete I’ll cover the picture with words. A disappointed Toyota dealer who has to spend two months in a Chevrolet Silverado has solved the problem with stickers, a classic solution. According to Mikko Oikari the boys in the workshop had their fun. Don’t know if I buy that explanation, though.

My grease preparation in anti-salt preservation seems to work well!

In Gävle I discarded my Big Boy snow mobile overalls for now. From now, the lowest temperature may be minus 5 and then an ordinary overall and a BMW rain suit as windbreaker on top are enough.
