Ear plug!
Distance today, south of Alta to Fjällbonäs 753 km. Temperatures between -4 degrees and -15.
The alarm was set for 5:30 and we could stay in our sleeping bag until the inevitable action, to do what everybody has to do, rich or poor – the morning pee. It takes a man, leaving the tent with a diesel heater and 20-25 degrees room temperature and then step into the snow in your shorts, but there is no way around it. What’s wrong with a catheter? In motorsports we have already done half the job with Cameplack for fluids, why not arrange the whole circulation? I mean, recycling is popular.

Stefan Wikström is already practising for Africa, but I can’t see any real use for his sun glasses, not in these parts, at least not in the winter.

At North Cape there is dawn and dusk at the same time, for about two hours.

At 07.00 we took off south without breakfast. We had that 200km later in Enontäkio in Finland. Must say I am impressed with the lights on the HP2. The reflector is small but the light it throws is really good.

Like all travellers we simply had to record the moment we crossed the Polar Circle and got south of it.
In Gällivare we stopped for a late lunch and then I decided to ride with ear plugs. I borrowed a pair from Stefan, size small. Two hours later I felt bad and it was getting worse. Finally I stopped by the road and ripped off helmet and balaclava, but the feeling remained. Then I tried to get the ear plugs out, but that was the problem. They had been sucked in and were at the eardrums. When I finally had them out, I felt like I had a suction pump against my eardrums. Large seems the better option.
To take off or put on clothes for winter riding is a challenge. Here is a picture sequence on the clothes I wore the first two days of my trip.
