The professor
The last few days before the start showed a number of unsolved problems. Our working plan was perfect until I was suddenly made the cook, which my wife Eva can’t understand. Is there no field where your experiences can be put to use? she asked. I think I heard some irony in this comment. She didn’t know I was busy with loading all information into my GPS system and had devoted 1 hour and 15 minutes to it, but five minutes before deadline I was in hysterics. To buy a GPS for over 1,000 Euros and then find it not ready to race. Imagine buying a chainsaw and then open the box to find it in bit and pieces. And when you look for assembly instructions you find a piece of paper asking you to search on the web.

This was when I phoned Stefan Wikström and offered him the role as GPS expert. In return I was appointed cook. Now I suddenly remember that I have all the information in my GPS for the snow mobile, also a Garmin, but this is also the point where my computer locks up. I simply refuse to spend 15 hours on the net, searching helpdesk. Some may think this has to do with lack of experience…

My first assignment as cook was to order 300 portions of freeze-dried food in three different tastes. Spaghetti bolognese (my favourite), chicken stew with curry and meat stew. No fish.
I am also in charge of medication. I can diagnose total burn-out and wireworms – and treat them. Itchy ass is another of my specialities. I have taken a quick course in other treatments and am now capable of sewing up to half a metre long wounds together (that’s how much thread I have). Two forms of anaesthetics are available, but for bigger wounds I think the rubber mallet from the tool box is the better option.
The team is set up.
