Feverishly waiting
My brains are getting adjusted to being away from Fjällbonäs.
It is difficult to explain exactly what happens, but I begin to withdraw
and see my family from the outside
Sounds a bit too psychological, but it is like when the body prepares
for a mission. The brains do the same and you prepare mentally, as
well as physically.
I have never been away from the family over Christmas before and I
know that a month can be a long time. Our son Adrian was always very
reserved to me, when I came back, but I hope he is older now and better
prepared for it. It is up to me to keep a strong front and say that
I look forward to a change from my everyday life. When the family
planning began, I was prepared to set up a whole ice-hockey team.
After the fourth child and endless hours washing diapers I converted
to birth control, Chinese style. There are a few privileges though.
This morning, December 13, was Lucia and I had a whole train of them
in the bedroom.
Stefan Wikström, driving my pickup, seems not really to understand
why we will spend the first two nights in a tent, the first night
at North Cape and the second somewhere around Karesuando. He threatens
to sleep in the car with the engine running, environmentally clearly
unfriendly! He should take it like a man, as statistically it won’t
be colder than -20, with bad luck 35. He doesn’t know that we
are carrying a diesel heater. It will make life comfortable in the
tent, even for city people.
