| When
you see horses roaming around here, it feels like cruelty to
animals to keep them stabled. Without really knowing, I feel
this is how a horse should live. To be free to run wild in the
open fields of Kazakstan. |

| Today
we had breakfast along the road in a small café or whatever
you’d call it. This is wonderful, because there is no
way to order the breakfast menue, not in Swedish or in English.
Russian or body language are the only alternatives. Comedy guaranteed.
I usually try my best school English, but when that doesn’t
help, Cam says I simply raise my voice and try to speak more
clearly, which of course, doesn’t help either. The best
way is to go into the kitchen and point at whatever you want.
When it comes to payment, a mini calculator is used, but only
to show the figures. These are mostly of gigantic proportions.
Wonder if the traditional customers’ eye-sight is impaired

| After
customs procedure into Russia was finished, we wanted to check
into the first hotel, but they were all fully booked. I tried,
but it was impossible. At last, we decided to go to the next
town. Leaving Rubcovsk we suddenly found a hotel with rooms
to spare. Lovely, we didn’t have to ride in the dark. |

| In
this euphoric situation Rikard and I decided it was time for
a Russian Stopka-Vodka. The Finnish variety of punishment and
suffering. Schnapps taken in quick succession, where speed is
important. I had three quick ones and then went to my room to
write this. Shelina is like a chameleon and took to the Finnish
way easily. You’ve heard the story about the Swede who
went for drinks with a couple of Finns? When he wanted to intone
a song for the first drink, they were upset: “Are we drinking
or singing?” |
