Fairy-tale
mountains
| With these steep grades it is no wonder that the
trucks traversing these mountains are under pressure. |
 |
 |
| This truck had overturned after the driver had lost control
of it. It must be a horrible sensation sitting in a careening
truck downhill with the ravine on one side and the cliff face
on the other. |
 |
Today the postcard views have lined up regularly. The beauty of the
landscape makes it hard to concentrate on the riding. Even if I were
to use all summer taking photos of this, I wouldn’t be finished.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity of riding through this beautiful
country.
| I was surprised to find so many people living up here. Most
seem to be nomads, spending the summer with their cattle. I
can’t imagine anybody spending the winters here, because
I never saw any houses. But you have to agree with me that it
would be worth an arm and a leg to wake up to this view. The
tents are on an altitude of 3,000 metres. |
 |
| A closer look revealed a slaughter taking place just next
to the settlement. I was offered some meat by the man in the
picture, but politely declined, using body-language. My thoughts
flew half around the world to my hunting grounds in Bölen
and I remembered I had forgotten to put a salt stone there.
Human beings are the same all over the world. We all need meat
and joining the process from a living animal to the dinner plate
is something special. |
