We have a CD-player in one of the cars with a Swedish troubadour,
Roffe Wikström, and his song ”without a penny in my pockets”
comes to mind. Changing 150 US dollars against Iranian Rial is something!
1 US dollar is worth 10,000 Rials. Nobody knows the rate tomorrow,
but it’s a good guess that I will get even more.
I have to show you the standard of electricity safety down here. Looks
like a bird’s nest, but it works excellently.
Large bank notes are out again and I expect there is no country in
the world, where petrol is cheaper. How about 30 000 rials for 45
liters? Read in a Swedish newspaper that Iran does not have any refineries
of their own so they buy it ready from abroad and then sells it cheaply
in Iran. Is that economical?
Taking photographs of people here is a sensitive business. To show
this I simply had to take this photo of a woman. Nobody had covered
herself up as she had. Most seem to wear a hilka. The situation in
the country seems more extreme if you follow news reporting in the
West than it does when you are there. I believe you have to take a
critical look at the news you are fed through the media.
Now we know what it feels to be a blond bathing beauty in a bikini
on a beach full of bachelors or stand stripped to the waist fishing
in a river in Lappland in June. Big motorcycles are not allowed in
Iran and most are 125-150cc. We get noticed wherever we turn up and
sometimes they almost run us off the road when people drive alongside
to take photos with their mobile phones. Motorcycles seem to be popular
here .
