BMW’s
clown team
Finally, the real trip can begin. The boys from over there turned
up at 8 in the morning, eager and ready to go. To tell the truth,
nobody is more eager than I – just think: Having the opportunity
to do another dream trip on a bike is a privilege, is something I
could hardly have hoped for.
On our last trip, Lukas delivered a quick answer when a German asked
us on the river Nile, if we were the BMW factory team. He said: No,
we’re BMW’s clown team. This is a picture of this year’s
clown team.
Turkey is doing it big time. Last year, when passing through here
I saw that Turkey is trying to build up a modern infrastructure, at
least on the same scale as the rest of Europe. I can’t help
getting the impression that the people here are industrious and also
proud to be born here. If I hadn’t known better, I might have
though they fell asleep to the reading of Martin Luther every night.
We will go up to the Black Sea and follow its coast line. After a
hundred kilometres we entered a beautiful landscape.
I stop a couple of times along the road, that travel on shelves cut
into the cliff and admire the magnificent view over the sea. The problem
is that no camera in the world can take it all in. After a couple
of tries I see the problem of catching it all in one frame on the
same level as getting a tennis ball into a table tennis ball. The
coast line is worth a visit, but be prepared for traffic which will
bite back if you don’t take it seriously.
More surprising are the friendly police officers. The Swedish police
should be sent down here to gain some new impulses. I don’t
know if I have been lucky, or if every policeman has a nice attitude
to life in general and especially his job.
